Expanded Graphite (Surface Enhanced Flake Graphite) is manufactured by processing expandable graphite and then compressing the material back down into foil sheets. These sheets are then further processed into different Surface Enhanced Flake Graphite grades.
Some important benefits of Expanded Graphite (SEFG) include enhanced lubricity, extremely efficient oil absorption, enhanced conductivity, and increased surface area. The morphology of Expanded Graphite (SEFG) is typically much thinner than those observed in conventional flake graphite. Surface enhanced flake graphite has approximately twice the BET surface area of conventional flake of the same size. Expanded Graphite (SEFG) with a BET surface of 20m2/gram will increase the viscosity of naphthenic oil more than graphite having a BET surface area above 150m2/gram.
Expanded Graphite’s increased surface area allows for advanced applications in adhesives, potting compounds, polymers, lubrication systems, coatings, cover carbon in foundries. Expanded Graphite also functions as a source of graphene nanoplatelets.
ASB-3807 is comprised of 0.36 % moisture, 0.06 % sulfur, 98.9 % Carbon and has a nominal surface area of 17.2 m2/g.
